Keep downloading Windows Updates ... a decent Antivirus program ... and an Anti-malware program are what PC users need. I'm surprised by the number of people I encounter who never bother installing an antivirus app !!! It's like they assume only OTHER people get hit by a virus/malware. That is .. until they get hit and then they take the threat seriously.
Hey guys this is why you should be using Linux on your system since it prompt you for your administration password to install anything so if you are prompted for your password for no reason then you know you computer could of gotten a virus but if never entered it then you are safe since nothing installed. For windows users the best practices are to install the updates as they come out so you are protected from possible threat.

Try opening in SafeMode and run System Restore, sometimes does it but the latest version seems more difficult to remove... why doesn't Norton 360 prevent this infection ??? they need to sort it out.

my friend explained he got it from a gay website like this but clicked on a button off the side he should've have. Most likely one of those random "download" ones you see everywhere. It didn't help that he didn't have any virus protector, told him to invest in one instead of giving it to scammers

Some more info here : http://botcrawl.com/how-to-remove-the-fbi-moneypak-ransomware-virus-fake-fbi-malware-removal/ For a good Antivirus program I'd recommend "AVG" (free version) and MalwareBytes "Anti-malware" to keep your computer clean.

FYI I run MS security essentials on my pc. It is updated every day for latest viruses. Every file I download is scanned. Any infections, file is discarded. I manually scan entire pc once a day just to be sure. Have never had any problems on my pc. This software is FREE from MS if you have a pc. Sorry I'm clueless about Apple. To me, better safe than sorry. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Be safe out there guys! lol :))
Ransomware is a kind of malware (malicious software) that criminals install on your computer so they can lock it from a remote location. Ransomware generates a pop-up window, webpage, or email warning from what looks like an official authority. It explains that your computer has been locked because of possible illegal activities on it and demands payment before you can access your files and programs again. DO NOT pay as your computer rremains disabled even if you do . there are ways to regain control of regaining control of your computer - by running the computer in safe mode disconnected from the internet and using a programme like microsoft security essentials to clean it - there are advice forums online that show how but you would need internet access from an uninfected computer - this happened to me - thing is dont panic it is a scam

yes, it's called ransomware, friend got scammed. Tells you got caught watching CP and takes a still of you sitting at your computer with your cam if you're using a laptop. You can't get rid of it. He paid $100 before I told him not to. He had to take it in to get cleaned out.
